Title: School Bus Aide
Qualifications:
- Required criminal history background check
- Participate in all annual training as required by the district
Reports to: Special Services Director/Transportation Supervisor/Principal
Job Goal: The goal of this position is to provide transportation support for the bus driver to assure all passengers a safe ride to and from school. A bus aide provides general supervision to assist in the safe transportation of students including, but not limited to, educationally and/or physically disabled students. The bus aide monitors student behavior and maintains a quiet, orderly atmosphere on the bus while in transit either over scheduled routes and/or from special excursions and assists the bus driver by helping students board and depart the bus safely. These services may include ambulatory, eating, toileting and administration of medication (if needed).

Performance Responsibilities - Duties of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Assist students with disabilities according to their individualized needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning
- Assist students with physical care – administers first aide for minor injuries and other physical care needs as outlined in the IEP for individual students
- Assist in managing the behavior of students – instructs students regarding proper bus behavior and enforces all bus rules and regulations including those pertaining to safety
- Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
- Maintain confidentiality of information about children and their families in accordance with Board policy and law
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings and special events as requested by administration, especially relating to the transportation of students
- Help supervise arrival and departure of students to which he or she is assigned
- Participates in emergency evacuation drills and instructs passengers regarding safety regulations and other bus rules
- Follow instructions from teachers and administrators
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Must be physically able to assist all needs of children, especially special needs and/or assist in the use of wheelchairs, and other equipment for children as required
- Demonstrate a mature, constructive and healthy attitude
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, supervisor and/or school personnel

Conditions and Environment:
The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school and/or bus environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation.
Terms of Employment:
180 day position
Salary determined annually by the Board of Education.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education policy on evaluation of support staff.
