Job Description
Title: Parents as Teachers Educator
Qualifications: Individuals must qualify for training as a parent educator by meeting one of the following criteria:
1. High School graduate or equivalent (GED).
2. Certification and/or a four year degree in either Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education, Vocational Home Economics, Family and Consumer Sciences or Child Development and demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents;
3. A two-year associate degree or two-year cerificate program in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Nursing and demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents;
4. Sixty semester hours or more of credit from an academic degree granting institution which is contained within the Unites States Department of Education's Directory of Post-Secondary Institutions and two years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents as approved by DESE; or
5. Five years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents as approved by DESE and a high school diploma or equivalent. Individuals that qualify for training under this specific criteria may be required to complete additional training at the discretion of DESE.
Reports to: Federal Programs Director and Building Level Principal
Job Goal: The goal of this position is to provide instructional support for certificated teachers that will assist them in meeting the varied needs of students.

Performance Responsibilities:
Duties of this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepare instructional materials
- Collect materials needed by the teacher in presenting a unit of work
- Assist in the arrangement of the learning environment
- Operate and care for equipment
- Assist in the administering and scoring of tests and assignments
- Work with individual students or small groups on activities that have been assigned by the teacher
- Assist with supervision of students both during instructional and non-instructional times
- Complete recordkeeping tasks assigned by the teacher
- Work as a one-on-one personal attendant for a student when assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned

Conditions and Environment
The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
Terms of Employment: Salary determined annually by the Board of Education.
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education policy on evaluation of support staff.
