Job Description


Title:  Custodian

 

Qualifications:

Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities

Knowledge of effective cleaning protocols and proper commercial sanitation practices

Reports to: Lead Custodian and Director of Maintenance and Custodial Services 

 

Job Goal: To maintain the physical school plant and grounds in a condition of sanitation excellence to meet the educational needs of students

Performance Responsibilities:

Strives to promote the safety, health, and comfort of all students and employees

Completes all assigned cleaning tasks in their assigned area

Completes extra cleaning tasks as needed and assigned

Properly maintains all equipment that is used in assigned area, reports any needs to Lead

Custodian

Works with a crew for special cleaning projects and summer cleaning

Assists with relocation of District furniture as needed

Reports any safety or sanitation concerns to DCMS or Lead Custodian

Other duties as assigned

 

Essential Functions: 

  1. (Attendance) – Daily attendance is required to support the district’s educational program
  2. (Mobility) – Requires independent travel to work sites within the district
  3.  (Reading) – Read instructions in the use and maintenance of tools and equipment
  4. (Dexterity) – Transports materials between district locations; operates motor vehicles to complete job tasks: moves materials and equipment into and out of storage.
  5. (Writing) – Prepares and maintains written reports.
  6. (Communicating) – Discuss repair procedures with contractors; communicates with employees, citizens, suppliers, etc.
  7. (Sight) – Operates automotive equipment; visually troubleshoots and repairs system, structural and equipment components; visually compares labels and descriptive information of materials and equipment to inventories, physical lists, invoices, shipping orders, etc.

Physical Demands:

An individual who holds this position must frequently move in and around buildings and grounds, climb onto building roof areas, travel by vehicle to purchase supplies and address needs at various locations within the district.  The individual will also occasionally attend meetings and training sessions.

Hearing:  Must be able to hear a conversation in a noisy environment

Strength:  

  • Exerts in excess of 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
  • Exerts in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or
  • Exerts in excess of 20 pounds of force routinely

Attendance:  Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position

Conditions and Environment:

The work environment is consistent with a typical office and school environment; however the individual who holds this position will occasionally be required to be outside in temperatures below freezing and above 100 degrees. 

The individual who holds this position is occasionally required to work irregular or extended hours.

 

Terms of employment:

12-month contract.  Salary determined annually by the Board of Education

 

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of Board of Education policy on evaluation of support staff
